7 tips for cycling carefree with children

Cycling: child’s play? I really do! Introduce your offspring to the bike at a young age and grow a love bond for life. Your children love it, get much-needed exercise, and do short trips themselves. Together you save the environment and your pennies because you leave the car on the side. Worried about your little one on the bike? With these tips, you leave with peace of mind. Kind aan zebrapad

THAT’S NO SMALL DIFFERENCE.

1. Out with your mini? Choose the right child seat

  • So as long as your baby can’t keep his little head upright (until about 3 months) you shouldn’t take him on a bike.
  • Between 3 and 6 months you attach a maxicosi with a special carrier on the bike.
  • Can you sit up independently (between 6 and 12 months)? Time for a child seat!
  • Cyclist seats at the front of the bike carry up to 15 kg (about 3 years old), rear up to 22 kg (about 5 years old). Please note that carrying someone on the carrier or in the back of the amazon is prohibited!
  • Bike you with children? Then don’t put your saddle too high, so you can easily ground your feet. Always check if your brakes are working properly and bike at a moderate pace.

2. Is everyone sitting? Make sure you have a sturdy seat in cargo bike or bicycle cart

Would you rather plant your children in a cargo bike or bicycle cart? Good idea: they’re a little safer in there. And if they did fall, it would be much lower.
  • In a bicycle cart you can lose 1 to 2 children (up to about 7 years). It also takes you long distances. A bicycle cart is safer than a cargo bike because the cart moves away in the case of a collision instead of falling over. And your brood is dry and sheltered in it
  • In a cargo bike you take 1 to 4 children (up to about 7 years old). A cargo bike is slightly more unstable, which makes the children feel more shocked. That’s why they’re not so suitable for too small babies
  • Sp your dods tightly fastened and always provide suitable seats. A baby shell or baby car seat for the little ones. A toddler seat or extra headrest for older children

3. Go with mom or dad? Pedal together with the trailer bike!

Want to take longer bike rides, but isn’t your child up to too many kilometres? Then hook a trailer bike to your bike. That’s how your little partner kicks in when he feels like it. And he can rest his feet at a steep slope, heavy traffic or energy dip. See you put on a trailer bike?
  • Apply then that the children’s saddle is properly adjusted – so that your child can get his feet on the ground.
  • Look occasionally and keep your toddler in class: talk to it, make up songs for the road, … Otherwise, his attention will quickly slacken
  • Se.
  • En make sure you’re seen with a bicycle flag and fluohesjes.

4. Ready for your own bike? Get your child tested

Does your son or daughter want to be at the wheel? Then take your child to the store to choose the bike. And provide a frame that is tailored to his or her height.
  • Measurically, a first bike is a 12 inch model (for a child between 92 and 104 cm).
  • Let your child drive around and check if they can operate the brakes smoothly. Because sometimes they’re too far and little hands can’t get to them
  • Se doubt? Cyclicyclist Jurgen‘d be happy to give you advice.

5. Lights up? Drive!

For day and dew to school? Or return at night at the fall of darkness? Make sure the children’s bike is safely equipped. Mandatory:
  • white or yellow light in front and red light at the back for night (flashing lights are allowed)
  • t working brakes (one front, one rear)
  • correctly functioning bell
  • white front reflector
  • red rear reflector
  • gel or orange reflectors on each side of each pedal
  • white reflective strip on either side of each tyre and/or at least two yellow or orange reflectors on each wheel.

6. Helmet for your shrill? Choose wise

A helmet can prevent a lot of mischief in an accident. So always buckle your child a copy that has been approved according to the European standard CE EN 1078. Let him or her fit in the store anyway
  • Move the helmet when your child shakes his head? Or is he trying too much? Then adjust the straps or go for a different size.
  • The brighter the color of the helmet, the better, by the way. Let your child go crazy. With a helmet they like, you save yourself a lot of minutes of persuasion in the morning.
  • Kies an accompanying cheerful fluohesje with reflective elements. Think spacious, because during the winter the hesje sometimes has to be over coat and book bag.

7. Go to school together? Clear the road safely

Are you going on the road together for the first time? Then plan out a safe route in advance and practice before the first day of school. That makes your pagadder feel more secure.
  • Srij best to your child’s left at first.
  • Against? Then go cycling behind your child.
  • Has a little more experience for your child? Then you can always cycle behind it.
  • Mak clear agreements – for example, “If I shout ‘stop’, stop immediately and stay on the sidelines”.
  • Motiveer your child regularly on the go and then give tips on what can be improved.
See, with these basic tips, you and you are ready to step on the pedals. Cycling Jurgen wishes you a happy and safe school year. fietstocht met kinderen
